Educação em saúde: relação entre alimentação e saúde bucal

Sabendo-se da relação existente entre a alimentação e a
saúde bucal, realizou-se um estudo a fim de verificar o conhecimento
apresentado por 172 mães, de crianças de 0 a 12 anos de idade, da cidade
de Araraquara (SP). A amostra foi delineada por conveniência e utilizouse
como instrumento de avaliação um questionário, o qual demonstrou
por meio de distribuição de freqüências relativas, que 86,6% das
entrevistadas acreditam que a alimentação pode influenciar na saúde
bucal se preocupando com a qualidade da mesma. Quanto a relação
dieta/cárie, 82,5% restringiram-se a dizer que os doces causam cáries
enquanto 17,5% afirmaram não ter conhecimento sobre o assunto. De
acordo com as mães entrevistadas, 9,4% relataram ter obtido estas
informações através do médico, 11,4% pelos dentistas, e a grande maioria
(44,3%) apontaram a fonte de orientação obtida pelos outros. Assim,
conclui-se que, a relação existente entre alimentação e saúde bucal deve ser incluída dentro dos programas educativos-preventivos e no
planejamento de orientação dos profissionais de saúde, visando a
transmissão de informações que podem refletir em melhora no
comportamento frente à saúde desta população.
