Prevalência de obesidade em um shopping center na região central de Maringá – sul do Brasil

Atualmente a obesidade é caracterizada como um grande
problema de saúde pública no mundo. Em setembro de 2006 foi realizado
um estudo antropométrico e sócio-econômico utilizando indivíduos
transeuntes de um shopping center do município de Maringá no Estado
do Paraná, região sul do Brasil. Para coleta de dados antropométricos
(peso e estatura) foram utilizadas balanças antropométricas com
estadiômetro. Os dados foram agendados em um banco de dados e
analisados no programa Epi Info. Os resultados demonstraram que mais
de 50% dos indivíduos adultos estudados apresentavam-se com sobrepeso
ou algum grau de obesidade. Os autores sugerem estudos populacionais
maiores para estabelecer a realidade nutricional da população, com isso,
as autoridades podem implementar programas de prevenção em saúde.
