Abstract

Despite the transformations undergone by the job market scene in the recent years, the importance of the performance evaluation as an essential tool for the management of human resources has grown in the organizational context. This article aims to analyze the validity of the performance evaluation in the contemporary organizational context. It was built through a bibliographical review and has the objectives of presenting the gains and contributions of the usage of performance evaluation for both the organizations and their employees. Based on this study it was possible to identify the different methods of measuring and evaluating performance, the meritocratic bias and the new trends in performance evaluation. The valorization and awareness of companies regarding the performance evaluation becomes necessary because of the relevance of intellectual capital for organizations. That can be seen through a punctual action of the Human Resources area in the performance evaluation process, contributing to the performance of the whole organization.
