O uso de drogas psicotrópicas se faz presente em diferentes culturas da
civilização humana. A utilização destas substâncias, devido ao
desconhecimento em relação aos efeitos e causas farmacológicas e
toxicológicas das mesmas, levam o usuário a problemas psicológicos e
fisiológicos. Estes, variando de estados depressivos leves a problemas
cárdio-respiratórios e danos cerebrais, muitas vezes incompatíveis para a
manutenção da vida. A população de jovens apresenta uma propensão
maior de se tornar usuários compulsivos e até mesmo dependentes
irreversíveis.
