RELAÇÃO ENTRE OCLUSÃO E O SUCESSO NA REABILITAÇÃO ORAL DE PACIENTES EDENTADOS

Introdução: Sabe-se que o edentulismo é a realidade de grande parte da população brasileira após 65 anos. Portanto, o uso de próteses totais é comum nesta faixa etária. O esquema oclusal escolhido neste tipo de reabilitação é imprescindível para o sucesso clínico, conforto do paciente e desenvolvimento de fonética e mastigação adequada. Objetivo: Encontrar evidências científicas sobre diferentes tipos de desenho oclusal em reabilitação por meio de próteses totais convencionais. Métodos: Foi realizada uma busca bibliográfica eletrônica em diversas bases de dados (MEDLINE, LILACS, BVS Adolec e Cochrane Library, Pubmed), em inglês e português, entre os anos 2003 e 2017. Resultados: A maioria dos autores afirmou que embora haja vários ensaios clínicos que estudam o assunto e podem fornecer evidências científicas a esse respeito, revisões sistemáticas recentes apontam a necessidade de estudos clínicos randomizados mais criteriosos que possam fornecer evidências mais consistentes. Conclusão: A oclusão bilateral balanceada com dentes anatômicos apresentou os melhores resultados em relação à satisfação do paciente e eficiência mastigatória, porém não há evidências científicas suficientes para afirmar que esta oclusão é imprescindível para o sucesso da reabilitação por meio de prótese total convencional.
