Abstract

Os tumores estromais do trato gastrointestinal (GIST) embora raros, são os mais freqüentes tumores malignos mesenquimais. Com maior prevalência no estômago e duodeno, esse tipo de tumor geralmente se apresenta assintomático e, não raro, são diagnosticado em exames de imagem. Apesar dos avanços genéticos possi bilitando a identificação de mutações específicas, o diagnóstico por vezes é dificultado pela sua localização intra - mural. A ressecção cirúrgica completa da lesão é o tratamento de escolha com potencial curativo. Descrevemos um caso de GIST do esôfago trat ado cirurgicamente no Serviço de Cirurgia Abdominal e Torácica do Hospital Erasto Gaertner
