O estudo teve como objetivos descrever a atuação do enfermeiro, frente à gestante hipertensa no seu período de internação; avaliar as práticas e atitudes que contribuem para a assistência à gestante hipertensa de forma efetiva. Justifica-se a escolha deste tema, por considerar a importância do conhecimento, atitudes e práticas de enfermeiros frente às gestantes hipertensas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualiquantitativa, descritiva, utiliza a metodologia do inquérito CAP que visa avaliar o nível de conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas frente a gestante com Hipertensão. A coleta de dados foi realizada através de aplicação de questionários, elaborados pelas próprias pesquisadoras, à 17 enfermeiras de duas unidades hospitalares de cidades do interior do estado do Rio de Janeiro. A pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê Ética em Pesquisa com o Parecer nº 2.648.568. Os resultados apontaram para um conhecimento satisfatório das enfermeiras sobre a hipertensão e ainda às atitudes e práticas na maioria adequadas e que refletem o que é preconizado pela literatura. Conclui-se que a tríade, ter conhecimento, ter atitudes e práticas corretas, reflete a formação de competências adequadas para o exercício profissional embasado cientificamente e com qualidade e segurança para as gestantes atendidas.
