PREVALÊNCIA DE QUEDAS EM IDOSOS DEVIDO AO USO DE BENZODIAZEPÍNICOS E DIURÉTICOS

Resumen

Quedas entre idosos constituem um importante problema
de saúde pública. Idosos que consomem 5 (cinco) ou mais
medicamentos apresentam maior risco. As classes
farmacêuticas mais utilizadas e associadas a esses eventos
são benzodiazepínicos e diuréticos. Objetivo: verificar
quais medicamentos dentre benzodiazepínicos e diuréticos
influenciam na queda em idosos de Coronel Fabriciano,
Minas Gerais, Brasil. Métodos: Foram entrevistados 317
(trezentos e dezessete) idosos (acima de 60 anos) em
diversas Unidades Básicas de Saúde. Resultados:
Observou-se predominância do sexo feminino (68,5%),
entre 60 e 69 anos (62,1%), analfabetos ou com ensino
fundamental (86,7%), casados (53%) e uso regular em
média de 3 (três) medicamentos. O uso de diuréticos não
influenciou o número de quedas (p=0,149). No entanto
houve associação significativa entre o uso de
benzodiazepínico e quedas nos últimos 12 (doze) meses
(p=0,009) principalmente no período matutino.
Conclusão: Os diuréticos não tiveram influência
significativa nos eventos avaliados neste estudo.
Entretanto, benzodiazepínicos aumentaram queda nos
idosos da cidade. Os dados deste estudo apontam para a
necessidade de ponderar e o uso de benzodiazepínicos que
podem trazer sérios efeitos adversos, sobretudo em idosos,
como sonolência diurna, desequilíbrio e consequentes
quedas.
