Selante de superfície: uma alternativa para a prevenção do manchamento de resinas compostas?

As restaurações de resina composta podem apresentar
comprometimento estético, devido à sua alteração de cor. O presente
trabalho propôs-se a realizar uma revisão da literatura a respeito das
propriedades ópticas das resinas compostas e dos selantes de superfície.
De acordo com os relatos encontrados, pôde-se concluir que apesar da
evolução das resinas compostas, elas ainda demonstram algumas
limitações em suas propriedades como a susceptibilidade ao
manchamento superficial, a qual relaciona-se à característica do material,
ao comportamento do paciente e aos procedimentos executados pelo
cirurgião-dentista. Desse modo, a aplicação de um selante de superfície
tem sido indicada rotineiramente na finalização de restaurações estéticas
a fim de vedar fendas marginais, proporcionar maior lisura superficial e
maior resistência ao desgaste, bem como prevenir o manchamento.
Entretanto, sua utilização ainda é controversa.
