Gymnema Sylvestre: Planta medicinal com potencial antidiabético e hipolipemiante

A utilização das plantas, pelo homem, com finalidade
terapêutica vem de épocas remotas. A grande incidência do diabetes
mellitus e das dislipidemias, como fatores de risco para doença
aterosclerótica coronária, faz com que pesquisadores de todo o mundo
procurem novas alternativas de tratamento para os pacientes diabéticos
e/ou dislipidêmicos. Assim se enquadram as plantas medicinais com
possíveis efeitos antidiabéticos e/ou hipolipemiantes, entre elas a
Gymnema sylvestre, cuja literatura é extensa e relativamente favorável à
sua utilização para tal finalidade, sendo bem conhecida sua constituição
química e sugeridos vários mecanismos para sua ação antidiabética.
