CONHECIMENTO E EPIDEMIOLOGIA DA LEISHMANIOSE TEGUMENTAR AMERICANA EM MANDAGUAÇU – PR

A leishmaniose tegumentar americana é considerada uma das cinco doenças infectaparasitárias
endêmicas de maior relevância. É comum que o conhecimento acerca desta
doença restrinja-se às vítimas da infecção ou àquelas que já tiveram casos na família,
dificultando o estabelecimento de medidas efetivas de controle. Este trabalho teve por
objetivo analisar o conhecimento relacionando-o com a epidemiologia da infecção por
Leishmania sp, em indivíduos residentes na cidade de Mandaguaçu-PR. Trata-se de um
estudo descritivo, analítico realizado com 42 indivíduos que tiveram histórico de LTA
entre os anos de 2001 a 2010. Prevaleceram pacientes do sexo masculino e com contato
rural. O fato de conhecer a forma de transmissão não fez com que os entrevistados
adotassem conduta de proteção contra o mosquito. A maioria dos que sabiam como a
doença é transmitida tinha menos de 4 anos de estudo. Por se tratar de uma doença
endêmica no Brasil, há necessidade de avaliações que tragam melhorias na
identificação, diagnóstico adequado, tratamento e prevenção. Isto reforça que os
indicadores epidemiológicos são de extrema importância por oferecem informações
para um melhor planejamento de ações visando uma preparação dos profissionais de
saúde.
