Devido à falta de consenso na literatura e na tentativa de elucidar alguns princípios da real contribuição da oclusão no processo de desordem das estruturas do periodonto e dental, esta revisão de literatura se propôs avaliar os possíveis impactos das discrepâncias oclusais no periodonto e nas lesões cervicais não cariosas. Para isso, foi realizada uma busca na literatura, desde artigos clássicos até a presente data, dos principais assuntos em questão. Diante da revisão apresentada percebe-se que ainda existem muitas dúvidas a serem esclarecidas para o completo entendimento dos efeitos das forças oclusais sobre o periodonto e lesões cervicais não cariosas. Mesmo assim, tem-se que uma oclusão funcional é ideal e de fundamental importância para o equilíbrio dos diversos componentes do sistema estomatognático. Portanto, foi possível concluir que o ajuste oclusal deve ser realizado como rotina durante o tratamento periodontal. Já na associação entre as discrepâncias oclusais geral lesões cervicais, é verificado que mais estudos devem ser realizados.
