ABSTRACT
Introduction: Although most of the diseases associated with physical inactivity such as obesity, osteoporosis, musculoskeletal disorders, hypertension, myocardial infarction and others only manifest themselves in adult life, it is increasingly evident that their development begins in childhood and adolescence. Objective: To know the most frequent causes of physical inactivity in adolescents and to warn about the consequences that this lifestyle will bring to adult life. Methods: This is a bibliographic review in the databases: VHL, LILACS, SciELO, from 2004 to 2018 published in Portuguese or English. An analysis of titles and abstracts was carried out to obtain studies, being found 30 articles, of these, 15 were selected. The exclusion criteria were studies that were not consistent with the objective of the bibliographic review. Results: Some of the causes of sedentary lifestyle among adolescents were related to inadequate environments, financial condition, lack of encouragement from parents and school, excessive time on TV, video games and computer. It has been shown that physical inactivity in youth will lead to problems such as obesity, osteoporosis and musculoskeletal dysfunction in adult life. Conclusion: It requires the actions of schools, as well as parents and society to combat the barriers that prevent the practice of physical activity. Aiming the well-being and the promotion of the quality of life.
