Abstract

O consumo de álcool contribui para morbimortalidade
considerável, sendo importante problema de saúde pública.
Este estudo objetivou estimar a prevalência do consumo
abusivo e dependência de bebidas alcoólicas e os respectivos
fatores associados em pacientes do ambulatório do curso de
Medicina do IMES. Estudo transversal, em que 374
indivíduos foram avaliados quanto ao perfil de consumo de
álcool. Para caracterização do uso abusivo e da dependência,
foram utilizados os testes AUDIT e CAGE, respectivamente. O
teste qui-quadrado foi utilizado para avaliar a associação
entre consumo de álcool e fatores sociodemográficos. Amostra
constituída por 98 (26,3%) homens e 276 (73,7%) mulheres,
média de idade de 52,5 anos (DP±15 anos). AUDIT evidenciou
prevalência de uso abusivo do álcool em 7,8%, relacionadas ao
sexo masculino (p < 0,001) e tabagismo (p < 0,001). CAGE
evidenciou prevalência de dependência alcoólica em 10,9%,
com associação positiva com a faixa etária de 18 a 29 anos (p
= 0,001), solteiros (p = 0,012) e tabagistas (p < 0,001). Quanto
à religiosidade, crença evangélica apresentou associação
negativa em ambos testes (p < 0,001). Os resultados
evidenciam a importância de campanhas de conscientização
com o intuito de reduzir estas taxas e, consequentemente,
diminuir possíveis agravos decorrentes do alcoolismo.
