Abstract

Objetivou-se analisar a prevalência do aleitamento materno exclusivo (AME) e identificar os fatores determinantes da amamentação nos primeiros seis meses de vida entre usuárias da rede pública de saúde de Maringá, PR. Estudo observacional, transversal com 378 mulheres que fizeram o pré-natal nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde. Para análise utilizou-se o procedimento stepwise em modelos de regressão logística. A prevalência de AME em menores de seis meses foi de 30,03% e média de AME de 118 dias. Dentre os fatores determinantes do AME analisados a situação conjugal foi estatisticamente significante, revelando que mulheres com companheiro apresentaram duas vezes mais chances de amamentar exclusivamente por seis meses do que aquelas que não possuem. A prevalência de AME está aquém do preconizado pela Organização Mundial da Saúde, mostrando a necessidade de reavaliar e reorganizar as ações pró-amamentação no município
