Abstract

O tratamento ortodôntico/ortopédico deve ser realizado de
maneira criteriosa, evitando assim possíveis reações nocivas
ao paciente e muitas vezes consideradas iatrogênicas. Este
trabalho apresenta um relato de caso clínico sobre a rara
ocorrência de ulceração necrosante no palato durante a
expansão rápida da maxila com aparelho tipo Haas,
utilizado como protocolo de tratamento precoce no paciente
portador de má oclusão de Classe III de Angle. Com base
neste relato, evidenciou-se a importância de obter condutas
imprescindíveis, a exemplo da época mais adequada de
intervenção, da confecção rigorosa do dispositivo a ser
utilizado e da necessidade de avaliar a condição sistêmica do
paciente, no intuito de evitar possíveis injurias. Logo, fica
registrado o alerta aos profissionais da área sobre a
possibilidade de necrose apesar dos cuidados.
