Genética de grupos sangüíneos ABH e LEWIS: revisão da literatura

Os antígenos ABH e Lewis são oligossacarídeos, e estão relacionados
bioquimicamente, pois são produzidos a partir das mesmas substâncias
precursoras. A biossíntese de cadeias oligossacarídicas implica a
participação de várias glicosiltransferases, produtos dos genes do sistema
ABO, Hh, Sese e Lele. Estes antígenos são expressos nos eritrócitos,
tecidos e fluidos corporais. A via biosintética ocorre de maneira
diferenciada nas hemácias e em células de outros tecidos. Muito tem se
questionado a respeito da relação entre os antígenos de grupos sangüíneos
ABH e Lewis e as doenças. Esses antígenos são receptores de inúmeros
microorganismos.
