A prevenção da cárie dentária ainda é um desafio para os profissionais de odontologia, em especial, para o odontopediatra, uma vez que ainda tem sido registrado um alto índice desta doença bucal na população infantil. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, com base em evidências científicas, qual é a eficácia das diferentes concentrações do diamino fluoreto de prata (DFP) na prevenção e controle da cárie em crianças. Trata-se de um estudo de revisão da literatura, o qual incluiu artigos que apresentassem evidências sobre a ação do DFP, publicados entre os anos de 2013 a 2018, estando disponíveis na íntegra na base de dados Pubmed/Medline. Apesar da maioria dos artigos e revisões mostrarem a eficácia do DFP quanto à prevenção e à paralisação da cárie, sendo o DFP a 38% apontado como o mais eficaz, ainda há muitas controversas sobre a forma de aplicação e a frequência. Acreditamos que um protocolo de uso deve ser instaurado para realização de pesquisas com resultados mais sólidos e válidos.
