A partir da descoberta da estrutura do DNA por James
Dewey Watson e Francis Harry Compton Crick em 1953 e
consequentemente a caracterização de uma enzima de restrição
provinda de Escherichia coli por Matthew Stanley
Meselson e Robert Yuan em 1968 é que novas tecnologias
de Biologia Molecular foram desenvolvidas, culminando na
primeira clonagem genética em 1972. Esta tecnologia pode
ser utilizada em diversos estudos, como mecanismos de
replicação e expressão gênica, na descrição da sequência de
um gene e sua proteína codificada, além de culturas microbianas
com a capacidade de desenvolverem substâncias de
interesse como a insulina humana, enzimas industriais,
vacinas entre outras variadas aplicações. Portanto, o objetivo
desta revisão é fornecer informações sobre os métodos
e aplicações da clonagem gênica. Para a realização da revisão
bibliográfica foram utilizados os bancos de dados Google
Acadêmico, Pubmed, PMC e Science Direct.
